Just maybe, not all at once. They say, “where there’s a will, there’s a way.” And because J. A. Busfield has a creative and determined will, she often finds a way. Some creative processes offer lessons and learning; others offer paths forward towards adventure and discovery, which circles back to lessons and learning. Joy and delight are almost always wrapped up in the process.
Here are a few recent creative projects underway.

If you’re a person looking to “level-up” your online presence and need some assistance with that – holler at me (use the button to send me a ping). I love getting a chance to work with individuals on personal branding and online reputation management. I’ve helped with basic headshot photography, updates to LinkedIn profiles and sprucin’ up the old resume.
I help start-ups start. I bring life to new, nebulous positions and roles. I organize the disorganized and bring structure to processes; then test and refine them (and often, document them). I figure out how to get from Point A to Point B. I unstick the stuck. I keep ships afloat and stop gaps, until solutions can be found and implemented. I bring confidence and resilience and a growth mindset to each endeavor, and that looks a little different, depending on what the situation needs. Here's how that's played out in my experience. Please note: this section is definitely not exhaustive.
Here’s a tree. Here’s a tree. And wait, here’s another tree. Do you even see the forest? Creating marketing content is often that way, and it’s hard to step back from the details to see the bigger picture. Start with the goals. List them out. Deep dive into the particulars and do the research. Start telling the stories…strategically. Keep an editorial calendar. Highlight what does well, as well as what doesn’t. Realign your strategy accordingly and keep moving forward with consistent coverage.
Already have a website and struggling with how to make it…more? More in-depth. More impactful. More likely to convert visitors into loyal visitors or customers? Stop struggling. Sometimes, your business can be hard to explain because you're too close and you get lost in the words; and sometimes, you can forget how visitors think. An outside perspective can help provide organization, and highlight the best parts of who you are and what you do. It can also give you ideas on how to expand your plan proactively.
Feeling overwhelmed by all the things you need to know? Already attended a training, but feel like all your new-found knowledge is slowly seeping from your brain? Depending on your learning style, a 1:1 with someone who’s trained a variety of business leaders might be just what you need.
Wishing you had more photos to use for social media posts? Tired of hunting the web? Not sure if you have the rights to use a photo you really like on Google? Don’t want to spend a fortune on stock photography? Stop looking outside and start creating your own bank of images.
Don’t have a website yet, but really want one? Whether it’s for personal use or business marketing, you have to remember one very important thing: your website is a tool. Define your goals, what this tool looks like and how it works, and then build content to support your plan.
Looking at paid media to help expand your brand? Want some help to strategize, organize and manage your audience, ads and budget? Not sure how to analyze whether they’re successful? It’s a lot; truly a hot mess of awesome opportunity. Get more eyeballs where you want them!
Looking to start a new career? Want to highlight your craft or hobby? Ready to launch your new small business? Personal branding and online reputation matters. Think about how you’re crafting and curating your online space. Need some help to uncover the opportunities and create a plan?
Need some assistance talking with others about your brand? Whether it’s that your nerves are holding you back or that you can’t be in two places at once, work with someone who has experience building slide decks and delivering information to small and large groups, in person or online.
Need more videos to help tell your story? Get nervous or feel frustrated by your attempts? Work with someone who has your back and who has experience building video scripts.
Are you building a new tool that’s going to help people? Get someone on the outside of coding and development to start reviewing system documentation and running tests.
Have an event on the schedule and need assistance with promotion? Events offer some really fun marketing opportunities before, during and after the actual event. It’s important to think through the opportunities and evaluate how they may fit into your goals. There’s a pretty good chance you’re going to be busy managing the event day-of, so why not add Jen to your team as a social media correspondent of sorts – for both real-time posts, and capturing moments you may miss? Need an engaging individual to help table an event or cover duties at a conference or expo? She can help with that as well.
Often, when you’re building business and engagement, you learn about new tools and add them into your workflow, without taking the time to stop and re-evaluate which tools can be deactivated and archived. Business is busy and the tools and accounts add up over time, costing you time and getting in the way of efficiency. Get someone on your side who can evaluate tools and migrate important information and dismantle what no longer serves, while maintaining clear records.
Turn your frown upside down. 🙃 Our thoughts shape our reality. If you find yourself a bit stuck in negative space, maybe getting a short email every-so-often that is specifically designed to help you focus on a positive moment is just what's needed. Take it from the lady who published 2 books of love letters, huh?
